SAMUI AREAS

 

Before you go on vacation to Koh Samui, it is important to make a choice in which area of ​​the resort is best to stay. Chaweng and Lamai regions are considered the most popular among tourists, as they have wonderful beaches and the most developed tourist infrastructure. For a relaxing holiday or families with children, the Maenam and Bang Po districts are suitable. The rest of the districts are less developed, but you can still find places to eat and sleep. On the island you can find noisy parties, shops, bars, and there are also truly quiet places, houses right on the seashore or in the jungle, where lovers of silence will have a great vacation.

 

Maenam District

This area is located in the very north of Koh Samui, from the beach of the same name offers an excellent view of the neighboring island of Koh Phangan.
The infrastructure of the Maenam area is quite developed and suitable for a good rest. The first and second coastlines are completely built up with hotels and small hotels. There are inexpensive hotels and a nice beach.
On Maenam Soi 7, near the main road, there is a market that is open in the evening. Here you can buy locally produced goods, souvenirs and food.
Soi 4 ​​is home to the area's entertainment scene, with a Thursday night Walking street market selling very cheap clothing, food and souvenirs.
You can find everything on Maenam: banks, ATMs, laundries, car and motorcycle rentals, markets, night markets, cafes, restaurants, etc. And this makes Maenam attractive to many tourists.

Bo Phut District

In the north-east of the island there is an area called Bophut. Bophut is known for beautiful sunsets, good restaurants, numerous pubs. The local beach is a two km long white sandy strip surrounded by coconut trees and calm waters of the bay. There are many hotels and stalls along the central street of the area. On Fridays, an evening market opens at (Fisherman Village), where you can buy clothes, shoes, fruits and ready-made Thai dishes. Also in the area are supermarkets (Big C), (Tesco Lotus) and (Makro).
If you suddenly need the services of a dentist, the most famous dental clinic on the island is located in the Bophut area, operating at a European level. There is a go-kart not far from it.
Many tourists consider the Bophut area to be the most beautiful and secluded place on the island. It attracts with its bright colors, the number of signature restaurants and boutique hotels.

Bang Rak District

If you are not attracted by the night and noisy life of the resort, then it is the Bang Rak or Big Buddha area that will be the ideal place for a quiet, secluded holiday on Koh Samui. From this area, you can easily get to any popular destination on the island or to the beaches with lots of fun by public transport.
Bang Rak is famous for its main attraction - the Big Buddha Temple, which is located on the top of Fan Hill. There are several piers on Bang Rak Beach, so if you sail to Koh Samui by boat from the neighboring island of Phangan or Koh Tao, you will find yourself right on Bang Rak Beach.
There are a lot of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops along the beach line. It has all the infrastructure necessary for life and recreation. There is even a Tesco Express store and a fish market in Bang Rak, where, in addition to a large selection of seafood, you can buy fruits and vegetables. The large supermarkets Big C, Macro and Tesco can be reached in 10 minutes.

Lamai District

 

Lamai is the second most popular area on Koh Samui. The tourist infrastructure is well developed here, as well as an excellent beach. Lamai is not as bustling as Chaweng, but there are some good places to be found here as well.
Long and wide coastline, clean sand, smooth entry into the sea Lamai Beach is the best place for a beach holiday.
The Lamai area has a huge variety of places to stay - from simple bungalows to chic hotels by the sea. There are dozens of shops, souvenir shops, beach activities. You can buy inexpensive and delicious Thai food, it is impossible to stay hungry.

There are large supermarkets not far from the beach: Makro, Tesco Lotus, Lamai Market.

Nathon District

 

The administrative center of Nathon is located in the western part of the island. It houses the immigration office, hospital, police station and many other administrative buildings.
The coastline of Nathon Beach is not suitable for swimming. The main port of the island is located here. Thanks to sea transport, people can easily get to neighboring islands and the mainland.
This area is not suitable for ocean swimmers and is not a beach destination. But the prices here are much lower than in the tourist areas. This applies to hotels, cafes and shops, a bank office with currency exchange.
On the central street of Nathon district there are supermarkets, markets and stalls.
